Alien Voice “Vrillon” Interrupts TV Broadcast in the UK
On the 26th November 1977, a strange Alien voice, calling itself Vrillon, interrupted a UK TV broadcast. It spoke of lights in the sky and urged humanity to embrace a more peaceful existence before it is too late.
The Vrillon UK TV Hack
On the evening of Saturday, November 26, 1977, during a news broadcast by ITN's Andrew Gardner discussing clashes in Rhodesia, the audio suddenly changed. A strange buzzing sound was followed by a distorted voice speaking for about six minutes. The speaker identified as Vrillon, representing the Ashtar Galactic Command, an entity associated with extraterrestrial communication since 1952.
Reports vary on the name used, with some calling the speaker "Vrillon," "Gillon," or "Asteron." The interruption ended, and normal transmissions resumed after a Merrie Melodies cartoon. Southern Television later apologized, referring to it as a "breakthrough in sound." ITN also reported on the incident in its late-evening Saturday bulletin.
Vrillon’s Message
Here is the full transcript of Vrillon’s message:
“This is the voice of Vrillon, a representative of the Ashtar Galactic Command, speaking to you. For many years you have seen us as lights in the skies. We speak to you now in peace and wisdom as we have done to your brothers and sisters all over this, your planet Earth. We come to warn you of the destiny of your race and your world so that you may communicate to your fellow beings the course you must take to avoid the disaster which threatens your world, and the beings on our worlds around you.
This is in order that you may share in the great awakening, as the planet passes into the New Age of Aquarius. The New Age can be a time of great peace and evolution for your race, but only if your rulers are made aware of the evil forces that can overshadow their judgments.
Be still now and listen, for your chance may not come again. All your weapons of evil must be removed. The time for conflict is now past and the race of which you are a part may proceed to the higher stages of its evolution if you show yourselves worthy to do this. You have but a short time to learn to live together in peace and goodwill. Small groups all over the planet are learning this, and exist to pass on the light of the dawning New Age to you all.
You are free to accept or reject their teachings, but only those who learn to live in peace will pass to the higher realms of spiritual evolution. Hear now the voice of Vrillon, a representative of the Ashtar Galactic Command, speaking to you. Be aware also that there are many false prophets and guides operating in your world. They will suck your energy from you – the energy you call money and will put it to evil ends and give you worthless dross in return.
Your inner divine self will protect you from this. You must learn to be sensitive to the voice within that can tell you what is truth, and what is confusion, chaos and untruth. Learn to listen to the voice of truth which is within you and you will lead yourselves onto the path of evolution. This is our message to our dear friends. We have watched you growing for many years as you too have watched our lights in your skies.
You know now that we are here, and that there are more beings on and around your Earth than your scientists admit. We are deeply concerned about you and your path towards the light and will do all we can to help you. Have no fear, seek only to know yourselves, and live in harmony with the ways of your planet Earth.
We of the Ashtar Galactic Command thank you for your attention. We are now leaving the plane of your existence. May you be blessed by the supreme love and truth of the cosmos.”
Investigation into the Vrillon Hack
Back then, the Hannington television transmitter was unique because it rebroadcast a signal received from another transmitter, the IBA's Rowridge transmitter on the Isle of Wight, instead of getting a direct connection through a landline. This made it susceptible to signal intrusion. If a low-powered transmission close to the rebroadcast receiver interfered, it could overwhelm the intended signal and lead to the unauthorized transmission being broadcast over a much larger area.
The IBA mentioned that pulling off such a prank would require a good amount of technical knowledge. A spokesperson for Southern Television confirmed that someone disrupted their transmitter in North Hampshire by using another transmitter nearby
After the strange broadcast, many local people got worried, and hundreds of them called Southern Television. The next day, the IBA (the broadcasting authority) said the broadcast was a prank, the first of its kind. News about the event spread worldwide, with American newspapers picking it up too.
Sir John Whitmore, speaking on the radio, questioned how newspapers reported the incident. Some people believed the "alien" broadcast was real, not just a transmitter hijack. A letter in a London Times edition asked if anyone could be sure it was a prank. A regional American newspaper suggested that maybe the broadcast wasn't a joke.
Even in 1985, some people thought there was no clear explanation for the broadcast. In 1999, a kids' TV show called It's a Mystery, made by Southern Television's successor, Meridian Broadcasting, featured the incident. They recreated it with pretend news reports and people watching at home.
Who was responsible for the Vrillon TV Hack?
No one has ever claimed responsibility for the Vrillon TV hack. Several theories have been floated about who may be responsible.
Some think it could be pranksters or people who know a lot about technology, taking advantage of the Hannington transmitter's setup.
But, there's also some who believe the idea that aliens, possibly the Ashtar Galactic Command, as mentioned in the mysterious message, might be responsible. The official narrative would claim the incident was clearly a hoax but suspiciously the documents relating to the investigation of the incident have disappeared from the archives. We may never know for sure exactly what happened.
