Is the 28 Day Cycle a Real Paranormal Phenomenon?
What is the story behind the “28 day cycle” theory talked about in the Netflix show 28 Days Haunted?
The History of the 28 Day Cycle Paranormal Theory
According to the show's producers, the 28-day duration was chosen because Ed and Lorraine Warren found that it took 28 days to completely break through the barrier between the living and the dead in their investigations.
The Warrens, who were a married couple and paranormal investigators, asserted that this boundary virtually disappears after 28 days, providing investigators with complete access to any entities present at a site.
The Warrens completed thousands of paranormal investigations during their careers and saw patterns appear in the way paranormal phenomena behaved. They eventually came to the conclusion that 28 days after paranormal phenomena first occurs is when it is likely to reach its peak.
Tony Spera, the current director of NESPR and son-in-law of the Warrens, brought the 28-day theory to the forefront of the paranormal community. As someone who has access to all of the Warrens' case files, it is likely that he found information to support this theory within.
The Significance of 28 Day Cycles in Other Paranormal Fields
There are other paranormal connections to the 28 day cycle. In witchcraft the 28 day lunar cycle is sacred and highly regarded. Witches believe women are closely in sync with this 28 day cycle as it lines up with their menstrual cycles.
Witches draw a parallel between the phases of the lunar cycle and the changes a woman goes through during her menstrual cycle.
The four energetic states of the woman - the virgin, the mother, the enchantress, and the witch - correspond to the four phases of the moon.
The waxing and waning phases are associated with change and transformation, while the full or new moon phases are considered decisive. The menstrual cycle corresponds to the full or new moon phases.
The woman's transformative periods are linked to the archetypes of the virgin and the enchantress, while the decisive periods are linked to the archetypes of the mother and the witch.
The phases of the cycles flow into each other smoothly until the two cycles begin anew.
Is there Scientific Evidence of the Paranormal 28 Day Cycle?
Like most paranormal phenomena, the 28 day paranormal cycle coined by the Warrens doesn’t have a lot of concrete evidence behind it. While the Warren’s documented paranormal investigations do support this theory it is still difficult to verify objectively.
