Cossart Road in Chadds Ford, PA, has a reputation as a dark and evil place. Legends claim that the DuPont family disposed of unwanted babies in the area and their ghosts still roam the surrounding woods.
Where is the Devil’s Road and the Cult House?

The Devil's Road, also known as Cossart Road, is a stretch of a few miles that winds through the woods to the north of the Delaware border in Chadds Ford.
For many years, it has been infamous for its eerie atmosphere and is particularly well-known to the towns located in the triangle between Wilmington, Philadelphia, and Coatesville.
While there are often discrepancies in the reported location, all accounts agree on one unsettling detail: the trees flanking this narrow, twisting road appear to bend away from the road surface as if in fear of some unspeakable presence.
Exploring the Devil's Road has become increasingly challenging in recent years. The street signs on Kennett Pike have been removed, making it easy to miss the turn onto Cossart Road or accidentally turn onto the private Cossart Manor Drive a few miles up the Pike.
Even if one finds the road, there are numerous "No Stopping" and "No Trespassing" signs posted on the trees.
The legend of the road has become so popular that hundreds of curious individuals would drive up the road, disturbing the residents with their noisy antics, vandalizing the area, and even engaging in dangerous stunts such as cross burning.
As a result, the township and police have responded with barricades and patrols, leading to many stories of visitors being chased down the road.
The Legend of the Devil’s Road and the Cult House
According to local lore, deep in the woods and up a densely wooded hillside lies a grand stone mansion known as the Cult House. Delaware residents claim it was once owned by a member of the DuPont family, and was the site of some kind of cult activity, although the specifics of these ceremonies remain unclear.
Some rumors suggest the DuPont family used the mansion for incestuous unions to keep their wealth within the family, while others implicate Satanists and the Ku Klux Klan. The mansion's windows are rumored to be either cross-shaped or inverted cross-shaped, depending on the particular story being told.
Interestingly, there is a "guard house" located on the property which houses a fleet of red pickup trucks. If one drives by the house frequently, one or more of the trucks will emerge from the house and pursue the intruder.
Despite how close the trucks may get, the driver's face remains elusive. Along the road adjacent to the property lies a particular tree with exposed roots that form the distinct shape of a human skull.
According to the legend, police discovered the remains of a sacrificial victim inside the tree years ago, although there are conflicting reports on whether the victim was human or animal. The legend claims that a human sacrifice is conducted on the grounds every Halloween.
Strange Natural Phenomena at the Devil’s Road

What makes the Cult House particularly unusual is the presence of unexplained natural phenomena both on the premises and along the adjacent roadway. Notably, the trees that border the road appear to bend away from the house in a manner that cannot be rationally explained.
Despite not being intentionally cut, these trees appear to be dramatically bent away from the house, in a direction opposite to their natural growth towards the sun. As one moves further away from the Cult House, the trees gradually return to a natural shape, standing tall and rooted upwards.

Another peculiar feature of the trees surrounding the house are the so-called "Skull Trees". It is rumored that members of the DuPont cult used these trees to dispose of disabled newborns. Over time, the trees would consume the remains completely, taking on the shape of the child's skull.
