On the 6th September, 2015, Henry McCabe was having a good night out with friends at a local club in Moundsview, Minnesota. He had been hanging out with his good friend William Kennedy all day. When they were done partying William dropped McCabe at a gas station close to his house.

At 2.28am McCabe’s wife, Kareen, received the mysterious voicemail. (More about that in a minute.) That was the last time that anyone heard from Henry McCabe.

Kareen awoke to find the voicemail on the 7th of September while she was away in California. While listening to the voicemail Kareen called McCabe’s brother, Tim Borbor, to discuss what could be happening. Borbor was disturbed by the voicemail and called the Moundsview police.

The police interviewed several of McCabe’s friends and none had any clue as to where he might have gone. William Kennedy, who dropped McCabe at the gas station, handed in McCabe’s keys and wallet to the police saying he had taken them from McCabe so he couldn’t drive drunk.

Police began a three month search and rescue operation. McCabe’s phone and bank accounts remained untouched since his disappearance.

The police investigation brought up more questions than answers. It turned out that Kennedy had dropped McCabe at the Holiday Gas Station and not the Super America station as he had told the police.

Some of McCabe’s friends were found to be using encrypted cell phone numbers. Various other details about the accounts from McCabe’s friends were inconsistent.

It seemed the people closest to McCabe knew more than they were letting on but there was no real evidence to suggest they were involved.

The Voicemail

The voicemail that Kareen received on the night of Henry McCabe’s disappearance is one of the stranger aspects of this case.

The voicemail contains several minutes of animalistic growling noises as well as Henry’s cries and screams of pain. At one point Henry’s voice is heard saying “I’ve been shot”. At the end of the recording there is a few seconds of silence before a man’s voice can be heard saying “Stop it”.

The full recording of the voicemail has been wiped from the internet but some people who heard it before it was taken down believe the voice saying “stop it” sounded like a white man.

Henry McCabe’s body is found

On the evening of November 2, 2015, police were notified of a body that had been discovered in Rush Lake in New Brighton. The next day it was confirmed that the body recovered was in fact the body of Henry McCabe.

An autopsy way performed and it was concluded that Henry McCabe died by drowning. The state of composition of his body made it difficult to determine if he had sustained any other injuries.

The case remains open to this day due to the strange voicemail indicating that someone else may have been involved in Henry McCabe’s death.

Possible Explanations

Henry was very drunk and just wandered into the water by himself.
Henry’s wife and friend had something to do with his death and were trying to cover it up. This would explain some of their strange behavior and inconsistencies in their stories.
A wild animal such as a mountain lion scared Henry into the water where he drowned. This could explain some of the strange noises on the voicemail.
Something paranormal happened to Henry. Perhaps something alien or a cryptid is behind the strange noises on the recording.
