In 2009, some mysterious black goo appeared off the coast of Alaska. Experts believe the goo was organic in nature but aren’t sure exactly what it was.

The Black Goo in the Ocean off Alaska

Off the Alaskan coast in 2009, a peculiar black substance was spotted floating around. It has yet to be identified.

A segment of the black goo was spotted from a helicopter flying over the region, and it was observed for about 15 miles. The dark substance stood out clearly against the white ice in the Arctic Ocean.

According to Terry Hasenauer of the Coast Guard, the substance is definitely of biological origin, and it is not related to any type of oil or hazardous substance.

The black goo appears to be some form of naturally occurring organic or marine organism, based on its smell and composition. It appeared to be alive.

An official from the North Slope Borough's Planning and Community Services Department stated that when the substance comes into contact with ice, it turns pitch black, discolors the ice, and hangs off it. Some jellyfish and a few remains of a dead goose, only bones and feathers, were found tangled up in the substance.

Interestingly, this isn’t the only case of mysterious black goo appearing in the ocean and confusing scientists.

Mysterious Black Goo Found in Orange Beach, Alabama

The mysterious black ocean goo in Alabama

A team of scientists were working about two miles away from Orange Beach, Alabama, when they retrieved the multi-corer from the water. To their surprise, they discovered cylinders filled with a dark, jelly-like substance that resembled crude oil.

Upon further investigation, they found that the substance did not act like oil at all. In fact, they were able to wash it off their hands without difficulty, and it had a strong sulfur smell instead of the typical petroleum odor. "As a sedimentologist, I can say that none of us have ever encountered anything like this in the shallow waters of the Gulf of Mexico," remarks Hollander. "It is definitely out of place."

After returning to the laboratories at the University of South Florida, the team began conducting experiments on the black goo they discovered earlier. It was found that the substance was composed of dead plankton and other organisms that had adhered to each other.

It remained unclear why all these organisms had died. Upon testing the waters from the mud, John Paul, a professor of biological oceanography, discovered that they were "toxic as all bejesus." This suggested that some form of poisoning had occurred, but the source of the poisoning was uncertain.

It was unclear whether it was caused by the deepwater horizon oil spill or some other pollutant in the Gulf. According to Hollander, the unique sediments in the area have accumulated within the past year and are contemporaneous with the timing of the oil spill and use of dispersants. While Hollander's tests are still ongoing, it has been established that a large number of marine organisms perished and formed a "toxic marine tumbleweed" that is now rolling around on the ocean floor.

Scientific Theories about the Mysterious Black Ocean Goo

It seems that the black goo in the ocean near Alabama can be explained as dead plankton and other tiny sea creatures, but what about the goo in Alaska?

There had been no major oil spills in the area around the time of the black goo sighting. Scientists concluded that it was some kind of rare algal bloom, the likes of which had never been seen before.

But what if the black goo is not what it seems?

The Black Goo Conspiracy Theory

The concept of the Black Goo is a conspiracy theory that revolves around an alleged demonic entity that is held responsible for numerous malevolent paranormal occurrences.

The entity is described as a sentient, tar-like substance that is black in color, and its origins are attributed to either Satanic forces, extraterrestrial sources, or a form of artificial intelligence, depending on the specific conspiracy theory in question.

The Black Goo is a perplexing and ominous creature that is rumored to cause sickness, madness, and criminal behavior in its victims. It is often described as emitting a sulfuric odor and possessing its own means of movement.

The entity is believed to have an active interest in the corruption of those in its vicinity and is linked to various conspiracies, including a demonic plot to take over the world, extraterrestrial intentions to conquer the planet, and even speculation that it is a rogue artificial intelligence.

Theorists suggest that the Black Goo emerges from fissures in the earth, falls from the sky like rain, or even arrives via space. Some witnesses claim to have seen the substance materialize out of thin air.

Wherever it appears, it is said to cause sickness and unease, with animals and humans becoming ill and the substance clinging to skin and causing physical and mental harm.

Was the Alaskan black ocean goo a demonic entity? Probably not, but it’s fun to speculate.
